Local friendly society, Cleveland and Durham Oddfellows, took a trip to Hartlepool RNLI’s lifeboat station and presented the charity with a £2,000 cheque in support.

The money was raised during Audrey Newton’s time as district chairman of the society at a number of local fundraising events.

The donation, Audrey explained, is in remembrance of her father and also a thank you from her aociety’s local members.

She said: “He was in the Royal and Merchant Navy and had always supported the RNLI. What the charity’s lifeboat, lifeguard and rescue crews do day-in, day-out is extraordinary, especially considering most are volunteers.”
