You came in your droves to tell us your favourite things to do, watch, hear, see and eat when December comes around – and we can now unveil the perfect Christmas, as voted for by you.

DECORATIONS: More than half of you said lights are your favourite.

But the days of candy canes and chocolates are long gone, with no voters picking them as their primary decoration.

Baubles were also popular with 35% of the vote.

DRINKS: It’s the most wonderful time of the year for a tipple - but the people of the North East don’t really care for a mulled cider.

The warming, wintry treat received only 4% of the vote, with a classy and cooling Bucks Fizz (44%) in the lead.

Snowballs and Port were also popular in second place, with 18% each.

FOOD: It’s time for the main event - the Christmas lunch. But what will you and your family be feasting on this year?

Goose was in last place with 4% and gammon or ham were also unpopular with only 8%.

FILM: Everyone has got a favourite Christmas film, so we asked our readers to submit their entries for the best one of all time - before narrowing them down into a top 10.

But despite It’s A Wonderful Life getting the most entries, it was Elf that topped the vote with 24%. The least favourite was Arnie’s stint in Jingle All The Way.

The Home Alone series came second with 19%.

GAME: There are a whole host of games on the market, whether you’re playing with friends, parents or little ones.

But Monopoly is a classic, and scored an overwhelming 42% with Twister, Scrabble, Pictionary and Cranium scoring zero.

SONG: Readers submitted hundreds of carol, Christmas turkey and Christmas cracker choices for us to whittle down into a top 10.

It was the classic Fairytale of New York, by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, which captured readers’ hearts. Last Christmas by Wham was the second most popular while Lonely This

Christmas, by Mud, scored only 1%.

TRIMMING: There are so many delicious things about a Christmas lunch so which one do you choose? An overwhelming 42% picked a pig and a blanket as their favourite, with stuffing as

a close second. Cranberry sauce (the perfect accompaniment to a slice of turkey, we thought) was last.

So settle down with your Bucks Fizz and turkey sandwich, pop The Pogues on and enjoy rockin’ around the Christmas tree. Merry Christmas!
