A TOWN fish and chip shop is enjoying a double celebration after winning a national fish and chip award and celebrating its first birthday.
Mary Lambert’s fish and chips, on Villiers Street, were recognised by the National Federation of Fish Fryers, and gained the Fish and Chips Quality Award, otherwise known as the ‘Big Q’.
To qualify, the shop had to go through a rigorous inspection by the federation, asssessing hygiene, preparation, staff training, equipment, frying, and the quality and taste of the food.
All fish used in the restaurant is fresh, not frozen, caught in the North Sea and landed in Hartlepool Quays, and much of the fish and chips range is cooked to order.
The award is valid for two years, and the shop will regularly be re-assessed to ensure the high standards continue to be met.
