HARTLEPOOL Mail journalist Chris Cordner has completed the first leg of a six-race challenge for charity.

The paper’s head of features ran the Hartlepool Marina 5 Mile Road Race to raise money for the Jo and Mya Memorial Fund. He was joined on the day by Mail photographer Frank Reid.

Chris will continue to support the cause throughout the summer, at races in Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Gateshead.

He said: “The run was my first after a six-month break because of injury. But it was great to get back into it and I am looking forward to raising money for a worthy
cause.”

The Jo and Mya Memorial Fund was set up by Ian Richardson in memory of his wife Joanne, 40, and eldest daughter Mya, aged six, who died in a car accident in 2010.

It supports bereaved children and families affected by death and terminal illness, and has so far raised around £60,000.
