An arrogant mistake

One of our former prime ministers has made comments that a support for Brexit is potentially causing divisions in our society.

To mention UKIP in his comments is a sign of the desperation of this failed politician.

We also had Mark Carney using another emotive word in his “fortune telling” speech.

One we are very familiar with in this part of the world, recession.

Of course he used the word “could” cause recession and a fall in the pound, along with a potential drop in house prices.

When hasn’t government policy been to stop or slow house price growth in order to help people buy homes?

Why is that a problem, unless you make money out of a rising market?

Also a falling pound would make our products easier to sell abroad and, therefore, be a boost to our manufacturing base.

His last point of a potential “technical recession” is very subtle.

The clue is in the terminology, which means you can have slight reduction in growth of, say, 2. 5% over a number of quarters and be in technical recession and not have any effect in the real economy.

It makes the arrogant mistake that we are all stupid, well we are not stupid.
