AROUND 30 residents quizzed Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond and a senior planner over the potential effects of a major planning blueprint update.
A public meeting over the implications of Hartlepool Borough Council's Core Strategy took place in Greatham.
As well as Mayor Drummond, the event at Greatham Community Centre, was attended by senior planning officer Andrew Carter who gave a presentation and answered residents' questions.
Brian Walker, chairman of Greatham Parish Council, said the possibility of a large new housing development at Claxton and a variety of industries provoked the most reaction.
He said: "There are a lot of problems that the proposals as they are cause to Greatham. We are squashed on one side next to a housing extension and so called eco industries on the other.
"There also seems to be some disparity between the size of gaps of land between other villages and the one around Greatham."
But, Mr Walker praised Mayor Drummond and Mr Carter for their open approach.
A public consultation runs until February 11.
Mr Walker added: "We are trying to encourage people in the village to respond and get involved because it does have a major impact on the village."
