Safe seat

I refer to Iain Wright's valedictory piece about David Cameron (Mail, July 14).

I became quite misty eyed about his apparent warmth towards the former Tory Prime Minister, notwithstanding a few expected criticisms.

I wonder if Mr Wright feels equal warmth towards his constituents of Hartlepool and Seaton Carew.

One would like to think so.

We saw nothing of him during the election campaign and we saw nothing of him during the EU referendum campaign, despite his constant assertions in the media that the majority of his voters would be “sensible” and vote to remain.

Does he understand his constituency at all?

Also, I am a regular viewer of the Parliament channel and I cannot remember the last time I saw him rise to ask questions relating to this town, especially in the matter of the University Hospital of Hartlepool, which concerns so many of us.

He would do worse than follow Dennis Skinner’s example, who recently asked Cameron about the closure of his local hospital in PMQs with such passion!

Though I supported the current voting system I sometimes wonder if having such a safe seat might make one a little blasé at times.

Tim Moss,

Seaton Carew.
