Think twice over balloons

Every time I see 50, or maybe 100, balloons being sent up into the air my heart sinks.

Usually it is to commemorate the loss of a loved one.

I think of where they will eventually land.

On the land – swallowed by an animal or tangled in its feet or feathers, leading to death.

Landing in the sea they can cause the death of turtles, dolphins and many other creatures.

Chinese lanterns are just as bad.

The wire on them, if chopped up by a tractor, can be swallowed by animals and cause pain and suffering.

Please, please find a better way than balloons or lanterns.

I remember the passing of my lovely sons by donating money to a good cause.

I may have lost a loved one but I don’t want to be the cause of suffering.
