Hartlepool parents who have to juggle work with looking after children during the summer holidays are to be given a helping hand.

The Oscar (Out of School Care) programme, which is run by Hartlepool Council, offers a whole host of full-day activities for children between the ages of three and 16 at West Hartlepool Rugby Club on Catcote Road, from Monday, July 20 to Friday, August 28.

Staff have put together a really impressive programme to make sure children have a fantastic time over the summer school holiday period.

Parents are able drop off their children from 8am with breakfast provided for them on arrival.

Kids then embark on an action-packed day of fun and thrills prior to being collected by parents before 5.45pm.

An impressive programme of holiday activities awaits youngsters, as Sandra Robinson, the council’s out-of-school coordinator explains.

“With West Rugby Club moving into their brand new clubhouse, we’ve now got exclusive use of the Oscar Playcentre, which is fantastic.

“Staff have even been giving up their spare time to spruce the place up.

“One of the added benefits of our location is that we have an expanse of grassed area which is great for outdoor activities, particularly over the summer months.

“This year staff have put together a really impressive programme to make sure children have a fantastic time over the summer school holiday period.

“We have activities within the centre such as crafts, a princess and pirate day, cookery, kite-making and sports, but we also have some great trips to places such as Romano Park at Ingleby Barwick, Seaton Beach, Vue Cinema and Ward Jackson Park.

“If parents have to juggle working and looking after their children during the summer holidays, Oscar’s could just be the answer.

“Children have a great time with us, and parents can relax knowing that their children are in safe hands.”

Oscar’s is rated as “outstanding” following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.

It also operates an after-school service which involves children being picked up from school and parents collecting them from the Catcote Road centre before 6pm.

There are two drop-in sessions planned at Oscar’s to enable parents to view the facilities and meet staff.

They will be held on Monday, July 6, and Tuesday, July 14. Both will last from 6.15pm to 8pm.

Parents are welcome to view the facilities and meet up with staff, but should do so via prior appointment.
