PARENTS are urged to keep their children entertained at a council-run childcare service over the October half-term holidays.
The after school and holiday programme based at West Rugby Club, in Catcote Road, Hartlepool, was recently hailed as “outstanding” following a visit from Ofsted inspectors. It caters for children aged three to 16 and during the half term, which runs from Monday, October 28, to Friday, November 1, parents are able drop off their children from 8am with breakfast provided for them on arrival.
They then embark on an action-packed day of fun and thrills prior to being collected by parents by 5.45pm.
Being trialled for the first time is the option of a shorter day which will run alongside the usual service from 10am to 4pm at a lower cost.
Staff say there is plenty on offer to keep town children entertained during the school summer holidays.
Sandra Robinson, the council’s out of school co-ordinator, said: “The team have put together a varied programme which includes crafts, cookery, sports, making jewellery, Halloween activities plus visits to Summerhill and the cinema.
“Our experienced team are great with the children and everyone is looking forward to the half-term fun.
“As a parent myself I know how difficult it can be to juggle working and looking after the children and hopefully Oscar’s can make things easier for parents during school holidays.
“Children have a great time with us and parents can relax knowing that their children are in safe hands.”
The after-school service involves Oscar’s staff picking up children from school and transporting them to the Catcote Road centre where they take part in a wide range of educational and fun activities.
Parents then have until 6pm to collect their children.
