PARENTS are joining together for a babywearing walk this weekend as part of a national event.

Hartlepool Attachment Parenting Group is working with Babywearing UK to encourage anyone who carries their baby in a sling to take part in Slingathon: a sling walk to raise the profile of babywearing during International Babywearing Week being held this week.

Babywearing is carrying the baby or young child in a sling or baby carrier and it is a growing practice among parents in the UK who find the convenience of a sling combines with an increased closeness with their children.

Slings have many uses, from soothing a tired child, to making dog walks, bus journeys and trips to the park with older children more accessible.

Hartlepool’s Slingathon Event will take place this Saturday, October 12 at 10.30am, starting at Seaton Carew Bus Station, The Front.

Jessica Thomas, of Hartlepool Attachment Parenting Group, said: “We hope the event will raise awareness of babywearing in the local area and help parents and parents to be who think they might use a sling to know where to find more information and support locally.”

Hartlepool Attachment Parenting Group meets on the first and third Saturday of every month at One77, in York Road.
