PATRIOTIC villagers will celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style with a two-day entertainment extravaganza.
Various groups in Greatham are coming together to stage two days of fun and games to mark the occasion.
The village will be buzzing with activities over the weekend of June 2 and 3 including children’s games and sports and open air concerts for people of all ages.
Brian Walker, chairman of Greatham Parish Council, said: “As long as people come out their doors and get involved with the community they can expect a really good weekend.
“There should be plenty to entertain them.”
Different village organisations have been planning their contribution since the start of the year.
Among those throwing themselves into the celebrations are St John the Baptist Church, the Women’s Institute, Greatham Village Players, Greatham Primary School, the Hospital of God charity, the village feast and Christmas market committees and Greatham in Bloom.
Brian said the plans are progressing well.
He said: “We’ve got a draft programme. Each organisation will be doing what they know best.
“We have come together to make sure we are not overlapping each other and have one event.
“We are just finalising the details and arrangements.”
The celebrations will be centred around The Green in the middle of the village and the grounds of the Hospital of God.
Last year, people in the village joined in national celebrations for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton when they held a community picnic.
It will be a busy month for Greatham as the village will celebrate the summer with its annual feast towards the end of June.
