A MAN has died after being hit by a car on a busy town centre road.
Emergency services were called to Grange Road in Hartlepool at around 5.35pm on Wednesday following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a Jaguar car.
The man was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton but he was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Police arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The road was closed for almost three hours while investigations were carried out at the scene.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and speak to them on the non-emergency 101 number.
