Pedestrian dies in early-morning collision

A pedestrian has died after a tragic road traffic collision in the early hours of this morning.

The man, thought to be in his 30s, died at the scene after the collision with a Skoda Fabia.

The incident took place at about 4.15am on the A174 westbound in Middlesbrough, about 200m west of the A1044 Low Lane intersection.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman for Cleveland and Durham Road Policing Unit said: "A male pedestrian, believed to be aged in his 30s, sadly died at the scene following the collision with a Skoda Fabia.

"Officers closed the road this morning while inquiries were conducted.

"Any witnesses to the collision or who observed a male pedestrian at this location, or anyone with dash cam footage who was in the area around the time of the collision, is asked to contact PC Paul Hardwick, from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 042575."
