Pedestrian injured in accident

A PEDESTRIAN needed hospital treatment after being hit by a car on a main road.

The incident, involving a silver Vauxhall Meriva, happened at around 10.10am in Stockton Street, Hartlepool, yesterday.

Traffic was diverted onto Victoria Road as police closed the carriageway on the Hartlepool College of Further Education side for around 40 minutes.

The woman was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees suffering with a head injury and leg pain.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 10.10am after a collision between a silver Vauxhall Meriva and a female pedestrian.

“The road was closed while police and paramedics were on scene and re-opened at around 10.50am.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “We got the call at 10.08am and arrived on scene at 10.25am.

“A female pedestrian had been involved in a road traffic accident.

“She was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees but her injuries weren’t serious.”
