A RESTAURATEUR has drawn in plenty of requests for pencils after urging people to take them off his hands after being wrongly sent thousands of them.

Krimo Bouabda was surprised to receive 5,760 mini-pencils in the post after ordering similar-sized pens to be used in his Casa Del Mar tapas bar, on Hartlepool Marina.

The online seller admitted its mistake when Krimo rang to complain and he was told he could keep the pencils – leaving the Algerian-born businessman in a quandary with what to do with the huge stash.

He asked for organisations such as charities and schools to get in touch if they could put the pencils to use.

Krimo, who also runs Krimos and Portofino on the marina, has been inundated with requests. Among those applying have been Grange Primary School, Girlguiding Hartlepool and St George’s United Reformed Church.

Krimo, said: “The power of the written word.

“Since I put it in the paper I have been inundated with requests from people.”

The pencils are being kept in Casa Del Mar and those who think they could use some of them are being asked to get in touch with Krimo, stating what they will be used for.

Krimo added: “I think it is quite funny that we have all of these pencils just lying around.

“Hopefully they can be put to good use by someone.”
