A PENSIONER was left shaken after her purse was snatched by a cyclist who stole her cash.

The 81-year-old woman was walking along the Causeway, in Billingham, at 5.30pm on Friday when the thief made his move.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said the pensioner was walking close to the Billingham Arms public house when the man cycled up to her from behind, snatched the purse from her hand, and cycled off.

The suspect is described as in his 40s, of broad build, with short hair, a red T-shirt with white shoulders and possibly blue jeans.

The purse was found nearby at the rear of Boyes, off Queensway, but cash had been taken.

Officers investigating the incident say the victim was left shocked, but otherwise unharmed.
