A NEW residents-only car parking scheme will be introduced in Seaton Carew after being agreed by councillors.

Residents living opposite shops on Elizabeth Way asked Hartlepool Borough Council to do something to manage traffic and parking outside their homes better.

A residents only parking zone will be created outside 12 homes between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday.

The majority of people who responded to a consultation exercise were in favour.

Councillors approved the scheme at the last meeting of the Neighbourhood Services Committee.

Residents said they had noticed an increase of vehicles parking on Elizabeth Way leading to congestion and inconsiderate parking including blocking homeowners’ driveways.

The council will also paint yellow lines on the opposite side of the road to the houses in the parking scheme to restrict parking. A permit will costs residents £20 a year.
