A PILOT scheme aimed at giving young people with disabilities the chance to try a range of different sports has been launched.
The new club, called Junior Funability, is open to people with disabilities aged eight to 16 and meets on Thursday afternoons at Brierton Sports Centre, in Brierton Lane, Hartlepool, from 4.30pm to 6pm.
Rachael Pringle, sports and physical activity officer for Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “It’s a great chance to learn and take part in cricket, bowls, badminton and tennis in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and with the help of experienced coaches.”
The council is running the club in conjunction with other local sports groups.
The pilot, which launched yesterday and runs until May 23, costs a total of £16.50 per person.
Organisers say places at the club must be booked in advance.
