A VILLAGE playgroup is thriving following a recent relaunch.
Greatham Playgroup has seen numbers steadily grow in its first month after a revamp.
The numbers of youngsters attending the parent and toddler group had dropped to about half a dozen in the summer.
However, it is now catering for around 20 children each session.
Last week the group raised an impressive £356 from an autumn fair at Greatham Community Centre.
New playgroup leader Justine Whitfield said: “It’s going really well. We have got lots of people coming in from all different areas of the town.
“Hopefully, it will continue as it has started.”
Justine said the playgroup is giving £200 from the proceeds of its autumn fair to Greatham Community Association, which runs the community centre where the group meet.
The remainder will go towards their Christmas party.
The playgroup held the fair during the half-term holidays as part of its commitment to the village hall fundraising drive.
It was a big success with scores of youngsters enjoying craft activities, a chocolate fountain, face-painting raffles and table-top sales.
Justine thanked volunteers from the Rossmere SureStart Centre in Hartlepool for their help and local businesses who gave prizes.
The playgroup is open to parents and small children from birth to nursery age.
Its recent revamp included getting new toys, ride-on bikes and craft materials.
It is open on Mondays from 9am-11am, and Wednesdays between 9.30am and 11.30am, at a cost of £1.50.
