A WOMAN has sent a plea to her former classmates to join her at a school reunion which is taking place this weekend.

Kathryn Lee wants to see as many people who remember her from Brinkburn Comprehensive School, in Hartlepool, to go along to a get-together taking place this Saturday.

Former Brinkburn pupils will meet at the reunion, which has been organised by Neil Appleyard and has taken place twice a year since April 2008.

Neil began arranging the event primarily for anyone who had ever attended the town’s Elwick Road Secondary Modern School.

But he also opened it up to people who attended Brinkburn Comprehensive School between 1973 and 1978 as Brinkburn was formed when the Elwick Road, Hartlepool Boys Grammar and Hartlepool High schools amalgamated.

Kathryn, who turns 51 next month and whose maiden name was Aiken, attended one of the reunions last year and enjoyed it – but said there was no one from her year group there.

Now the mum-of-four, who left Brinkburn in 1977, is appealing for anyone who remembers her to go along and reminisce about their school days.

The resident of Grange Road, in Hartlepool, said: “If anyone from my year remembers me I would love it if they came along on Saturday.

“At the reunion last May there was no one there I knew, there were mainly people from Elwick Road Secondary Modern.

“But a few teachers that taught at both schools were there, including Jean Williams and Ken Lupton.

“It was a really good do, I would really recommend that people go along.”

Former Hartlepool Mail employee Kathryn attended Elwick Road Juniors and then Elwick Road Secondary Modern, but after her first six months at the school it became Brinkburn.

The reunion will take place at The Woodcutter pub, in Waverley Terrace, Hartlepool, this Saturday from 7.30pm.

There will be a bring-and-share buffet and quiz.
