A HARTLEPOOL Mail competition win couldn’t have come at a better time for Pamela Skeet.
The civil servant from the Foggy Furze area of Hartlepool was “stunned” to win our prize giveaway of a luxury break for two at the five-star Fortina Spa Hotel, in Valetta, the capital of Malta.
Four months ago, Pamela lost her husband of 31 years Peter Skeet, 57, to cancer of the oesophagus after a two-year battle with the condition.
News of Pamela’s win is not only timely but poignant, as Malta was the first place that Pamela and her husband ever holidayed together, a year before they got married.
Pamela, who is taking her friend Debbie Riley, who works as a personal assistant at Huntsman Pigments, along on the trip, said: “Apart from being stunned I’m absolutely over the moon.
“Because my husband died four months ago from cancer and this is a little bit of something to look forward to.”
Pamela and Debbie hope to make the trip, which includes seven nights’ accommodation on a half-board basis, three spa treatments, a Valetta Harbour cruise and return flights, in September.
Pamela, whose name was picked after she sent in 15 specially-printed tokens and correctly answered the name of the capital of Malta, has never entered any competitions before, said: “This has just come at the right time.
“I have no idea why I entered, I think it was around the time of Peter passing away and there was so much going on.
“I think going to Malta and the sentimental connection made me enter.
“I’m still quite stunned, and Debbie hasn’t stopped doing cartwheels.
“It just shows you’ve got to be in it to win it.”
