Police appeal after dene robbery

POLICE are appealing for information after a man was punched and robbed of cash.

Peterlee CID is investigating a robbery in which a 38-year-old man is said to have been punched before his attackers robbed him of £90.

Police say the alleged victim was walking in Castle Eden Dene, close to the rear of Vibe nightclub, in Peterlee town centre, when he was attacked.

He was left with a bruised right cheek and scratches to his left cheek which were treated at Peterlee Walk-In Centre.

Detective Sergeant Cliff Down, of Peterlee CID, said: “The man was walking through the dene when he was accosted by two men who took money off him.

“They said ‘give us your money’ before grabbing his arms and stealing the £90 from his pockets.

“He ran out of the dene and to the police station.”

Police are appealing for information about the incident, which took place between 2pm and 2.30pm on Thursday.

Both attackers are described as being white and in their mid-20s, with one wearing a black cap and the other wearing a thin raincoat-style jacket and a dark baseball cap.
