A driver has died at the wheel of his car which rolled down an embankment after it is believed he suffered a medical episode.
The 44-year-old man was driving a silver Ford Fiesta on the A689, westbound, along Coal Lane, adjacent to Wolviston Services, at about 10pm on Wednesday evening.
The vehicle left the road and travelled a short distance down an embankment before coming to a stop.
The driver was given medical assistance at the scene by paramedics and members of the public who had stopped to assist.
Despite this he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police investigating the incident are now keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the silver Ford Fiesta, prior to it leaving the road on Wednesday night.
Any witnesses are asked to contact PC Paul Dixon from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 177070.
