A POLICE investigation has been launched after a cabin on a bowling green was torched by a gang of youths.
And officers say that if firefighters had not reacted so quickly there would have been a “more serious incident” as the cabin contained flammable liquid.
They are now appealing for help in catching those responsible for the fire in Moor Parade, Hartlepool, at around 9.25pm on Friday, April 15.
Youngsters were spotted at the time running away from the area where rubbish close to the steel storage container was set on fire.
The flames then spread underneath the wooden floor and travelled up into the container.
PC Andrew Lee said: “The fire caused extensive damage to internal fittings and fixtures.
“The container contained flammable liquid and if it wasn’t for the diligent work of the fire brigade a more serious incident could have occurred.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information about it is asked to call PC Lee on (01642) 302178 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
