POLICE forces today observed a minute’s silence in respect of the people who were massacred at a magazine office in Paris.

Durham Constabulary and Cleveland Police posted images on Twitter of their officers and staff paying their respects after yesterday’s attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine.

Two officers, Franck Brinsolaro and Ahmed Merabet, were among the 12 who died when two gunmen targeted the satirical publication’s headquarters.

Mr Brinsolaro acted as a bodyguard for the magazine’s editor Stephane ‘Charb’ Charbonnier, who also died, while Mr Merabet was killed in the street as the attackers escaped.

There has been an outpouring of grief across the world after the shootings, with French President Francois Hollande declaring today as a national day of mourning.
