A MAN needed hospital treatment for facial injuries after an alleged assault near a busy road.
Officers from Hartlepool Police were called to a grassed area of land in Catcote Road, close to the Wynyard Road junction, at 3pm yesterday after reports of an assault.
Police taped off a large area of the walkway while investigations were carried out throughout yesterday afternoon.
The victim, a man believed to be in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton.
It is not yet known the extent of his injuries.
The incident happened on land close to the Goldmine pub, which remained open to the public yesterday.
One eye witness said: “The police were all over the place, and when they taped the place off it looked as though something really serious had happened.”
Inspector Mick Brown, of Hartlepool Police, said: “Just before 3pm on Sunday police received an allegation of assault.
“One male was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees with facial injuries.
“Anyone with any information, or who may have witnessed what happened, should contact PC Liam Crowe, from Hartlepool Police, on (01642) 326326.
Three men have been arrested and are currently being quizzed at Hartlepool Police Station.
