POLICE are still no further forward in solving the identity of a mystery man found unconscious in a field.

A week to the day after a group of teenagers found the unnamed man on the Friarage Field, on Hartlepool’s Headland, officers are yet to establish who he is or how he came to end up with his head injury.

The man remains in a critical but stable condition in Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “We are still taking steps to positively identify the man and establish the circumstances of how he came to be in that situation.

“If anyone believes they have any information that could either help or confirm his identity or if anything untoward has happened, please call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.” Police are examining CCTV and inquiries are ongoing into the incident, which saw the man discovered around 9pm.
