Police trying to trace motorist after boy, 9, hit by van in Hartlepool

POLICE are trying to trace the driver of a dark-coloured vehicle which was parked in a bus stop opposite where a boy was hit by a van as they may be a key witness.

The nine-year-old is being treated at the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after he was struck by a red Citroen Berlingo at the junction of Ashgrove Place and Stockton Road, in Hartlepool, around 5.10pm on Wednesday.

Police described the boy’s condition has poorly but stable.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Ian Robson from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101.
