If a Mayor stood down during office the deputy mayor would initially step into the role.
Full council would then seek nominations from councillors to determine who would carry out the role for the remainder of the municipal year.
If there was more than one nomination it would be put to the vote.
There are two main reasons that would force an existing councillor to stand down. These are:
If a councillor is declared bankrupt
If a councillor receives a prison sentence (including suspended sentence) for three months or more.
