YOUNG football fans can enjoy free fruit at all Hartlepool United home games this season.

The Clarence Road club have teamed up with McDonald’s in Hartlepool for the initiative which has been welcomed by officials at the football club.

Under 16s sitting in the Family Enclosure at Victoria Park will be able to take advantage of the offer by claiming free fruit from the Cheeky Monkey Kiosk by producing their match ticket or season ticket.

H’Angus the Monkey will also be dishing out free fruit ahead of kick-off at The Vic including before today’s Sky Bet League Two match with Shrewsbury Town.

Russ Green, the club’s chief executive, said: “We are always looking for ways to enhance the experience of coming to a game at The Vic, particularly for young fans.

“As part of that we want to create a safe and wholesome environment so we’re delighted that McDonald’s have joined forces with us on this free fruit scheme.”

Mark Nutall, a McDonald’s franchisee, added: “It can be tough as a parent to make eating the recommended five portions of fruit and veg a day fun for youngsters, so by adding to their experience at the match we hope it’s going to be well-received.”
