A SOCIAL group originally set up to give people something to do during the cold winter months is still taking place over the summer.
Staff at the Belle Vue Community Sports and Youth Centre, in Kendal Road, Hartlepool, launched the Cold Weather Social Group for people of all ages earlier this year.
During the winter it is held every Tuesday and Thursday but over the summer months the social group is being held on the last Thursday of every month.
The next session is to be held on Thursday, August 29, between 1pm and 3pm.
Organisers say the social group is open to anyone and not just pensioners and those that do go along play bingo, cards and dominos.
It is also a chance to meet up with like-minded people and make new friends.
Sue Wilson, receptionist at the community centre, said: “Everybody is welcome to come along.”
Community centre staff say the group will be held once a month until December when it reverts back to two days a week, every Tuesday and Thursday between 1pm and 3pm.
During the winter, it is aimed at those vulnerable people who may not be able to afford to have the heating running during the day or just for anyone who would otherwise be sitting at home alone.
It is a chance for people to take part in craft sessions, sewing, play pool or take part in light chair exercise, card games, dominoes or even just to watch television or DVDs.
Transport is available.
