Post office re-opens after five weeks

A POST office is set to re-open today after being closed for more than a month.

Seaside Lane Post Office, in Easington Colliery, closed unexpectedly on July 5.

The branch was due to re-open today under a temporary sub-postmaster.

Angry residents had contacted the Mail in late July as they were forced to find alternative post offices.

Post Office bosses had recommended local people use other local branches, including Easington Post Office, in Easington Village.

But residents said the alternative branch was a mile-and-a-half away on a steep bank, which would be a problem for the elderly.

A Post Office spokeswoman would not reveal the circumstances of the closure, but said: “Seaside Lane Post Office is due to re-open today.

“It is going to re-open with a temporary sub-postmaster at the same location.”
