ELECTRICITY has been restored to dozens of homes after a 16-hour power cut.

Seventy-four homes in the Ocean Road area of Hartlepool were left without power from 9.15pm on Wednesday after a fault with an underground cable.

Northern Powergrid engineers worked to rectify the problem and the electricty was back on at 1.15pm on Thursday.

A Northern Powergrid spokesman said the the problem was not weather-related and was caused by an underground cable fault.
