MORE than 1,800 homes were hit by a power cut on Thursday afternoon.

Houses in the Headland and Dyke House areas of Hartlepool were affected after a suspected underground cable fault.

Of the 1,844 homes, 1,244 had power restored within 10 minutes, but the remaining properties were still waiting to be restored after 4pm, with engineers working to fix the problem.

Northern Powergrid said it was not thought to be connected to a power cut that hit 55,000 town homes last week.
