SHOPPERS can help hundreds of school children get their hands on top new equipment in the return of a popular scheme.

The Hartlepool Mail is once again supporting Shop For Schools run by Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

Shoppers are given points for every pound they spend in the shopping centre which can then be donated to their chosen participating school.

And this Bank Holiday Monday, customers can take advantage of a treble points boost.

A total of 24 Hartlepool primary schools, and two nurseries, are participating in this year’s scheme which has been up and running for a few weeks now.

Suzanne Chaney, Middleton Grange’s marketing manager, said: “Shop For Schools is always well supported by customers.

“Last year, over 450,000 points were collected and divided between 29 schools and there is some great stuff up for grabs.”

Prizes the participating schools can chose from include sports kits, digital cameras, microscopes and other classroom equipment.

To support simply take your shopping centre receipts to the customer service desk to exchange for points.

Then post them through the letter box for your chosen school between now and August 31.

Every pound spent on a Sunday is worth double points and watch out for bonus points in the Mail.

Schools’ point scores are calculated by dividing them by pupil numbers to ensure fairness no matter how big the school.
