Culture lovers can make waves by taking a step into the world of dance this week.

The Billingham International Folklore Festival is ready to take centre stage – with a little help from the public.

Yorkshire-based Balbir Singh Dance Company is inviting residents to step up for a series of free workshops ahead of a double-header of festival performances at Billingham Forum.

The workshops will give creative types to chance to get up close with the cast of Synchronised and Painting the Indian Gods, two dazzling dance shows being staged as part of the festival.

Synchronised will serve up a stunning mix of dance, synchronised swimming and live music and will kick off the festival on Saturday, August 13.

Workshops for the show will be held at the forum swimming pool tomorrow, from 10am until noon and from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Thursday.

Painting the Indian Gods wil bring stories from Indian culture to life.

Workshops are held from 10am until noon on Wednesday and 1pm to 4pm on Friday.
