A group of children from a County Durham primary school have managed to build on the success of their new after-school club.
The children at Easington Village CE Primary School started taking part in a Meccano Club on a Friday afternoon and have already won their first competition, the Great Engineers School Challenge at the National Railway Museum in Shildon.
Andrea Swift, headteacher at the Hall Walks school, said they were delighted with the win, which was against other schools in the county.
She said: “It was amazing that the children won because this was the first time they had entered a competition.”
Mrs Swift said setting up the Meccano club was part of the school’s drive to give all pupils a chance to try new things and find something they are passionate about.
She said the Meccano club has been very popular with the children.
