YOUNGSTERS got in the scrum during an area’s first-ever rugby event of its kind.
Teams from Deaf Hill Primary School, in Trimdon Station, and Blackhall Primary School too part in the inaugural East Durham Year 4 Primary School Rugby League Festival.
The event was organised by East Durham College’s community rugby league coach, Rob Jones, who said the festival was a great success and it hopes to grow year-on-year for this age group.
Rob said: “This is the first opportunity for the Year 4s in the area to be involved in Rugby League and hopefully it will continue to grow.
“You have to try things to make them work and this project proved a huge success with both schools bringing two teams.
“The round robin format worked great as there was no overall winner and the afternoon was centred on activity and participation.
“All the children who played on the day thoroughly enjoyed it and that is the real winner.”
Rob thanked Peterlee Council for its continued support and for providing the venue at Helford Road.
