YOUNGSTERS ended their school term in style as a horse and carts whisked them off ahead of their six-week break.
Schools across Hartlepool and East Durham have brokeu up for their summer break and can look forward to a summer of fun before returning to class in September.
And youngsters from Year 6 who finished term at Eldon Grove Academy ahead of their move to ‘big school’ after the break made sure they had a send off to remember when the bell rang for the final time at 3.15pm.
Tariq Rasul’s son Amile and nephew Daniel, both 11, left school in style as they were taken on a tour in a horse and cart after finishing school.
He said: “It is something different, people get limos but we wanted something different.
“It is the last time they are in that school because they are going in the big school and that’s why we’re doing it.
“They didn’t know about it so it was a big surprise. It took them round the town and then back home.”
Eldon Grove Academy headteacher Carol Bradley said: “As a school we would like to wish a fond farewell to all of our Year 6 pupils who are moving onto secondary school in September.
“It has been a privilege to be their headteacher and to see them all develop.
“We wish them well in their future endeavours.
“It was lovely to see them all get a fantastic send off, and I’d like to thank all of the parents who went to the trouble of organising this because it was a great way to end the school year on a high.”
