A GROUP of students got the chance to play a college league match at a 25,000-seater football stadium.
An inter-college match between East Durham College and Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College was held at Darington Arena, home to Darlington FC.
The match was organised at The Quakers’ ground as part of a deal between Darlington FC and East Durham College’s Elite Scholarship programme which took on a number of the club apprentices in September after they were let go by the beleaguered conference outfit.
The game saw the East Durham side beat their Darlo rivals 4-1.
The goal scorers for East Durham College were Ashley Lavan with a brace, Neil Fannan and Kurt Seymour, who was also named as man of the match.
East Durham College is currently inviting talented footballers to attend trials to join their prestigious sport scholarship programme’s September intake.
The trials will be held at the College’s Houghall Campus, in Durham, and are open to boys who will be aged 16 or 17 on or before September 1.
The latest trials will be held this Wednesday, with registration from 9.45am.
The scholarship programme, which sees students based at the Houghall Campus, offers an attractive package of incentives and support – along with expert coaching and guidance from the Academy’s top coaching team of ex-professionals.
