Hartlepool Carnival’s new quiz league kicked off in style when seven teams competed against each other.

The popular quiz is the first event that signals the ever popular carnival is not far away.

Teams tested the old grey matter in round one of the quiz which was held at The New Inn pub.

The host’s team called Novis Tavern were joint winners with The Cosmopolitan’s side Cosmos, while Andrew Horsebrough acted as quizmaster.

Round two was held at the Victoria Arms on Wednesday and the quiz continues on Wednesday, June 7, at the Headland Social Club.

A spokesman for Hartlepool Carnival Committee said: “The quiz has gone very well so far and we are delighted with the attendances from the teams.

“We are extremely grateful to all the licensees for hosting the event which always proves a huge success.”

The quiz is held in a different Headland pub or club every Wednesday until the grand final which takes place on August 2 at The Victoria Arms.

Week one raised £132 and proceeds from all the events go towards the running the carnival which is entirely self-funded.

Carnival organisers are encouraging people to think about entering a float in this year’s parade and can help with insurance.

They are also looking to hear from anyone who has any carnival pictures to feature in a new brochure.
