A rail company is launching its search for community champions.
Grand Central Rail has unveiled its Heart of the Community Awards to recognise the people who have made contributions – whether it’s raising money for good causes or volunteering for a local initiative.
Last year, Bernie Kelly, 55, who has been a football coach for more than 20 years, won the Hartlepool award for his commitment to sport.
Now, Grand Central is calling on the people of Hartlepool to nominate their community heroes. Four shortlisted entrants from the North East route and four from the West Riding route will attend an awards ceremony in October.
A winner from each of Grand Central’s routes will be announced at the ceremony.
The winner will receive a family trip to London, including rail travel, hotel and visit to The London Bridge Experience and Tombs attraction, as well as a £500 donation from Grand Central to the charity of their choice.
Sean English, chief operating officer at Grand Central, said: “The communities along our routes lie at the heart of what we do.
“Last year’s nominations highlighted the hard work of so many people, dedicated to very different causes, within those communities.”
Entrants can email their nominations along with their name, age, telephone number and address to firstname.lastname@example.org using the title header Hartlepool Heart of the Community Awards.
