Readers are being kindly urged to think of others by backing the Mail’s annual festive appeal.

Over the years Give a Little Gift has provided hundreds of under-privileged children with Christmas presents to make the festivities special.

The Mail is again running the campaign in conjunction with MKM Building Supplies in Hartlepool and it is hoped to be the best year yet.

The idea behind Give a Little Gift is simple.

Readers are asked to drop off unwrapped presents for youngsters less fortunate than themselves at the MKM base in the town’s Burn Road.

Don’t worry about breaking the bank.

Small gifts such as cuddly toys, perfumes, shower gels and selection boxes are just as welcome as any bigger presents. We will then distribute your collection between official causes across town.

Mick Sumpter, a director at MKM Building Supplies Hartlepool, said: “It was tremendous last year when around 800 gifts were handed over.

“The people who received them were surprised and grateful but if we had another 800 we would have found places for them.

“We really want to do much better than last year and get agencies involved and do the best we can.

“We’re all revved up and raring to go.”

People can bring their gifts the town’s MKM branch in Burn Road on Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm or Saturday morning 7.30am to noon.

Any agencies or charities can also contact the Mail or MKM if they believe they have youngsters who should receive a festive boost Ring the Mail on 0191 5017471 or MKM on (01429) 231500.
