MUSIC lovers are being encouraged to step back into the 70s to help raise vital funds for a youth club.
Staff at the Belle Vue Community, Sports and Youth Centre, in Kendal Road, have organised the glam rock music night with all funds going to the centre’s popular youth project.
Band T-Rox, who cover T-Rex, Slade and David Bowie during their set, will perform at the gig this coming Friday, May 18.
This is the latest fundraiser for the youth club, which currently provides activities for around 250 young people, aged five to 19-years-old, a week.
Over the past 18-months there has been a range of fundraisers including charity nights, bungee jump, race nights, sponsored dips at Seaton Carew and community fun days.
Gordon Larkin, centre manager at the Belle Vue Centre, said: “These charity nights are very important as part of our ongoing efforts to raise money for the youth club.
“Everyone at the centre is really looking forward to it and I would encourage members of the community to come along.”
Mr Larkin has even promised to dress up in his 70s gear if the centre receives a “significant donation” ahead of the night.
He added: “If we receive a donation before the night itself then I am happy to dress up in my gear.”
The charity night will be held on Friday, at the Belle Vue Social Club, in Kendal Road, at 7.30pm.
Tickets, available from the centre, cost £3 and all proceeds from the night will go to funding youth activities at the community centre.
Meanwhile, places are still available at a number of sessions run by the centre.
Every Thursday from 1pm and 2pm, people aged over 40 can take part in Zumba Gold.
It costs £2.50 for adults and £2 for pensioners.
The Fit Tots session is held every Wednesday from 1pm and 2.30pm at the centre.
Refreshments are included and the sessions cost £2.50, with 50p for every other child.
For more information about any of the events call the centre on (01429) 221832.
