A RETAIL outlet saw record sales as thousands of shoppers flocked to snap up Boxing Day sales.
Dalton Park, which is near Murton and attracts shoppers from Hartlepool and East Durham, saw a 14 per cent increase of post-Christmas bargain hunters compared to last year.
Bosses say there were early signs of a strong start to the Christmas period with November sales at Dalton Park showing a lift of 8.5 per cent on last year.
Sales up to the week ending Sunday, December 16 showed a 9.5 per cent increase , with a five percent increase on footfall compared to the same time last year.
Bosses say Dalton Park’s ever-increasing visitor numbers remain strong because outlet centres are giving customers what they want in hard financial times.
The outlet has also seen a series of new openings over the past few months which has increased offers considerably.
Centre manager Jerry Hatch said he is delighted with the performance and added: “Our Christmas sales have been very strong with spend per head up by 1.3 per cent.
“This is very encouraging when reports indicate that many people have cut back.” this year and indicates that people are choosing to shop where they are guaranteed great value and good deals.”
