YOUNG footballers will be be seeing red when a charity night takes place in their honour.
The event is being held on Friday at the Hillcarter Hotel, in Church Street, Hartlepool, in aid of the Throston Hotspur under-17s football team.
The side was set up after youngster Ryan Taylor approached bosses and asked them to set up a team in the Throston area.
It has been running since last June and has entered its first season in the Russell Foster Youth League.
During the fun-packed event, players will be sponsored to perform as the Spice Girls.
Players Daniel Marshall and Karl Bolton have dyed their hair red in the team’s colours before they have a sponsored shave on the night.
Other players will be dressed as superheroes and some supporters will be doing a sponsored silence.
Team manager Jonathan Lyver said: “The team was set up to give kids something to do to keep them out of trouble.
“We have a 24-player squad who train twice a week. We play our games on a Sunday, Tuesday and a Thursday now the nights are lighter. “We are running the event to raise funds for running costs for the next year, including paying for a new kit and travel costs to get us to games.
“We’d love the community to get behind this new club which aims to get kids off the streets.
“The fact that Daniel and Karl are willing to shave their heads for the cause is a true credit to them and shows their commitment to the team.”
Company representatives from Niche, based in Horden, will also be having their heads shaved in support of the lads.
The event, which starts at 7pm, will also feature music from DJ Mad George and cabaret artists.
Tickets cost £3 and are available by calling Jonathan on 07800778566.
