A REGISTER office is due to be re-located later this week.
Hartlepool Register Office in Raby Road will shut at the end of business on Thursday and services will resume from the new base at the Civic Centre on Monday, March 14.
The move is part of Hartlepool Borough Council’s drive to cut costs as it deals with a major cut in Government funding.
Superintendent Registrar Peter Spires said: “The majority of the register office’s business, including the registration of births and deaths, nationality services and all marriage preliminaries will take place in the Civic Centre.
“Access to the new office will be via the main entrance of the Civic Centre in Victoria Road and appropriate facilities have been set aside to meet the needs of people requiring registration services.
“With any move there is likely to be an element of disruption, but we will be striving to keep this to a minimum and we believe that the move will ultimately benefit local people.
“For example, people visiting the Civic Centre to use registration services will be able to access a range of other services at the same time. Also, the current register office shuts on Wednesday afternoons, but that will no longer be the case after the move.”
When the register office re-opens, the new telephone number will be (01429) 523337.
Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies will not immediately be moving as the Willows suite within the existing office will continue to be used until around June.
A new venue to replace the Willows is currently being sought, and couples who have weddings booked to take place after June are being contacted directly by register office staff.
