A FRUSTRATED resident has hit out at the authorities who have been unable to fix a long-running water leak in his street.
Neil Laking, of Caledonian Road, Hartlepool, has been in touch with Hartlepool and Northumbrian Water and Hartlepool Borough Council in a bid to plug the leak outside his home.
But it remains unfixed after almost two months – as there is uncertainty as to which agency is responsible for it.
Neil, 44, who is unemployed, said: “Water is seeping through the road.
“It started last year and the council came out and dug the road up and said there was no problem.
“A hole filled up with water but it was filled in the next day. Now it has started leaking again.
“It feels as if I’m getting fobbed off.
“Nobody wants to take any responsibility.
“There is obviously a problem but nobody wants to admit it.
“It’s just ridiculous.”
A spokesman for Nortumbrian Water, which is responsible for the sewer network, said: “We are doing everything we can to help although we don’t believe the water has anything to do with the sewers.
“We believe it to be fresh ground water.”
A Hartlepool Water spokesman said the company has carried out tests and say there is no leak in their pipes and believe it is natural water and down to the council’s highways department.
A council spokesman said: “We are aware of the situation and are currently liaising with the water authorities to determine where the water is emanating from.”
