RESIDENTS had their say on transport issues at a well attended event.

Dozens of people turned out at the County Durham Transport Conference, at Wingate Community Centre, where they raised concerns about local bus and transport services.

Representatives from a number of local organisations turned out to speak to residents.

East Durham Community Transport, Durham County Council, Arriva North East and Easington and District Communicare were all represented at the event.

The conference was organised by County Durham Residents’ Association and funded by Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

John Cairns, transport champion for County Durham Residents’ Association, said: “The conference was really well attended and it went extremely well.

“On the whole everyone is happy with how it has gone.

“It has been a chance for people to air their views and have their say.

“At times it did get quite heated but it was great that people had the chance to speak to the representatives from the different providers.

“The conference was a one-off event but we will be holding similar conferences in the future on transport and other issues.”
